Cerec Crowns
CEREC CROWNS
Cerec is a dental restoration that allows a dentist to produce a porcelain restoration using a variety of computer assisted technologies, including 3D photography and CAD/CAM. This eliminates the need for impressions; in addition, teeth can be restored in a single vistit, rather than multiple sittings required by conventional techniques.
How does it work? The cavity or crown preparation is first photographed and stored as a three
dimensional model. The computer software is then used to design the restoration shape using biogeneric comparisons to surrounding teeth. The restoration design is then refined using 3D CAD software. When the design is complete, a milling machine mills the actual restoration out of a ceramic block using diamond head cutters under computer control. When complete, the restoration is bonded to the tooth utilizing a resin cement.
